Palmetto Training Group was founded with a simple purpose: to provide professional, performance-focused firearms training built around proven methods, sound fundamentals, and Accountability Under Pressure.

PTG was created to address the gap between traditional firearms training and the level of performance required when speed, accuracy, decision-making, and pressure matter most. Our curriculum combines principles from performance-based shooting with practical defensive and law-enforcement applications to develop efficient, capable, and accountable shooters.

We believe effective training doesn't require gimmicks or unnecessary complexity. It requires proven methods, deliberate practice, measurable performance, and instructors who can communicate those concepts in a way students can understand, apply, and retain.

Our courses are built around a structured progression of fundamentals, performance, and application. Students are expected to take ownership of their performance, identify areas for improvement, and continually work toward becoming more capable and efficient shooters.

Based in the South Carolina low country, PTG provides firearms training for civilians and law-enforcement professionals and travels throughout the United States for hosted training opportunities.

Dylan Johnson

Founder / Lead Instructor

Dylan Johnson is the Founder and Lead Instructor of Palmetto Training Group and an actively serving law-enforcement officer with five years of experience. He currently serves as a Patrol Supervisor and has worked in patrol operations, criminal investigations, narcotics enforcement, and as a Field Training Officer and agency instructor.

Dylan holds instructor credentials through the NRA, South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, and Axon. His professional training includes patrol rifle, red-dot handgun applications, weapon-mounted lights, less-lethal systems, criminal interdiction, narcotics operations, and other law-enforcement disciplines.

A dedicated performance shooter, Dylan competes in USPSA and IDPA and has spent the past several years developing his skills through deliberate practice and more recently, competition.

His approach to instruction centers on strong fundamentals, efficiency, measurable performance, and the ability to perform under pressure. He believes effective instruction is about more than knowing the material—it is about communicating it in a way students can understand, apply, and retain.

Dylan founded PTG to help bridge the gap between traditional firearms training and the level of performance demanded of today's shooters.
